Since 1964, Peek ‘n Peak Resort has been recognized in the North East region as an all seasons family destination.  The Resort is comprised of 105 acres, 27 slopes and 4 Terrain Parks with varying difficulties.  Travelers from PA, OH, NY and Canada visit the resort for affordable recreation, such as: Snow Sports (Ski/Board/Terrain Park/Tubing), Golf, Adventure Park, Spa and Events.   We’ve established generations of enthusiasts who love the beautiful location, rustic charm, learn to “ski and ride” programs and legendary snow conditions. The Childcare Attendant is responsible for the general care and supervision of up to (25) children between the ages of 8-weeks to 9-years in a drop in facility for the convenience of Resort guests. Childcare Attendants are responsible for physical needs, emotional conditions, health and safety of children.  

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Welcome guests and act as an ambassador by answering questions regarding Peek ‘a Boo programs/pricing, describing resort “points of interest” and supplying maps/directions/general information.
  • Use proper telephone etiquette to answer / hold / transfer calls, take complete messages and follow policies for reservations.
  • Provide personal care such as clothing, diapering (toileting), bottle feeding (feeding), which may include lifting and carrying children.  Medicines should only be dispensed by qualified personnel and with a written note from parent/physician.
  • Monitor children’s physical/emotional needs, play activities, feeding/nap times to ensure a safe and comfortable environment.  Instruct children in appropriate health/sanitary habits, such as eating, resting and restroom use.
  • Support children’s social development, encouraging understanding of others and positive self-concepts.
  • Plan, organize and lead guests / children in a range of interesting and enjoyable activities and games.
  • Set up and “clean as you go” during activity sessions to create a pleasant, attractive and sanitary environment for participants.
  • Maintain a clean, safe and orderly childcare facility, including:  play / nap / snack areas, desk and restrooms. Sanitize toys, play equipment and bedding.  Wash hands frequently, especially after diapering.
  • Walk childcare area as required to observe activities, provide instructions, and prevent accidents.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of Resort and industry safety regulations and emergency procedures.
  • Caution children regarding unsafe practices and safety hazards.  Facilitate a culture of safety and promote rules, regulations and accountability.   
  • Respond to illness and injury incidents in the childcare facility immediately and appropriately.
  • Report any unsafe conditions/equipment to supervisor or facilities manager immediately.
  • Maintain records for each child, including: daily observations, feeding, medications, activities, issues and/or injuries.
  • Communicate with parents/guardians about daily activities, behaviors and related issues without criticism.  
  • Complete appropriate paperwork for registration / payment.  Ensure accurate records of sales transactions in accordance with resort and department polices.
  • Operate a cash register and / or POS system to total purchases, process cash or credit payment and provide proper sales receipt and change.
  • Maintain knowledge of resort and department policies regarding payment, exchanges and security practices.
  • Transport items to various resort locations (as required), including:  food and laundry.
  • Maintain accurate availability, communicate changes and be considerate of: operating hours, guest reservations, special events and holidays.  * See Resort attendance policy for complete details.
  • Use time clock to ensure accurate payroll processing.
  • All other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS to perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Verbal and written communication skills to interact with guests and associates at all levels as well as read / interpret instructions or policies.   
  • Desire to function in a team environment with a positive attitude with a focus on caring for children.
  • Basic technical skills required to operate cash register/POS system, calculator and credit card machine; prior computer experience required.  
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy of transactions in a fast paced environment with a high degree of professionalism. 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • High school or GED equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum 6-months prior experience in childcare, education, nursing or related field preferred.

CERTIFICATES/LICENSES  

  • Criminal background screening required to authorize employment working directly with children.

  • Must be able to walk, stretch, bend, and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to bend, squat, kneel, reach, stretch, and climb without any difficulty.    
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds without difficulty.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends and holidays required and willingness to flex up or down in scheduled work hours (based on business need).
