Peek’n Peak Resort is bringing back the Cardboard Box Derby to it’s annual Spring Fest in addition to the famed Pondskimming event this Saturday, March 15th at 11am. Cardboard artists will turn cardboard, glue and a paper into slope vehicles and race down the tubing hill for a chance to win most creative, best team spirit, best crash and fastest time. Pondskimming starts at 2PM and will bring out the brave for a whacky trek across our man-made pond at the base of chair 1 & 2.
This is the first time since 1991 that Peek’n Peak will be doing the resort spring tradition of a Cardboard Box Derby. 15 teams have registered their creations so far for the race. Spring fest will also offer Kettle Corn, a Chili Bar, Ice Luge & Ice Bar, a cook-out, on-mountain DJ and a hot chocolate bar on the Retreat deck. To top off the day, local favorite 80’s rock band French Kiss will perform at the Retreat Lodge from 7-11pm. All events are free and spectators and costumes are encouraged.
“We are excited about adding the Cardboard Box Derby back into the mix of our Spring Fest Events this year. This is an exciting event that many of our loyal customers have been looking forward to and its a great way to celebrate all the snow we have had this season. Spring skiing is some of the best skiing of the year, the rates are lower and people don’t have to wear as many layers”, said Nick Scott Jr., Vice-President and owner of Scott Enterprises who own Peek’n Peak Resort.
Competitors can register for the Derby online at pknpk.com or day of at the Retreat Lodge at 9am. Pondskimming registration starts at 1pm at the Retreat, and the event kicks off at 2PM. Helmets are required, and anyone under 18 must have a waiver signed by a legal guardian.
